Development history
Gvozdika, meaning carnation, gave Soviet motor rifle divisions an armoured 122 mm howitzer that could keep up with BMPs, cross rivers by swimming on its tracks and protect its crew from shell splinters and small arms. Built on the MT-LB tracked carrier family, over ten thousand were produced in the Soviet Union, Poland and Bulgaria, and they remain in service on several continents. It is a self-propelled howitzer rather than a tank and is recorded as such here.
