Development history

Replacing the M24 Chaffee, the M41 was a fully modern light tank with a high-velocity 76 mm gun and power traverse. Thirsty and noisy for a scout vehicle, it nonetheless served dozens of armies; Brazilian and Taiwanese upgrades with diesel engines and 90 mm guns kept it current into the 1990s.
