Development history
The Scott replaced the Stuart's 37 mm turret with an open-topped one carrying a 75 mm pack howitzer, giving armoured reconnaissance and cavalry units a weapon that could destroy machine-gun nests and bunkers. It served in Italy, north-west Europe and the Pacific, and the French used them extensively after 1944. Its indirect-fire role was gradually taken over by Sherman-based howitzer tanks and towed artillery.
