Development history
Designed in 1918 around Fuller's Plan 1919, the Medium D used a flexible wire-rope suspension and a long, high-climbing hull to reach 20 mph across country - extraordinary for the period. Trials from 1919 to 1921 showed the running gear could not take sustained punishment, and the 1922 decision to buy the Vickers Medium ended the programme. Its ideas about tank speed and range nonetheless shaped British cruiser tank thinking for two decades.
