Development history
Leonid Kartsev built Object 140 with an aluminium-wheeled running gear, a heavily shaped turret and a rear-mounted engine at a steep angle to save hull height. Two prototypes ran in 1957. Kartsev himself asked for the work to be cancelled, judging the layout too hard to service in the field, and diverted his bureau to the far more conventional Object 165 and 166 that became the T-62.
