Development history
The T-24 grew out of the T-12 programme as a home-grown medium with a main turret, a machine-gun turret above it and a hull gunner. Transmission and engine faults were never solved, only 24 were finished, and most ended as training vehicles or artillery tractors. Its importance is institutional: Kharkov Locomotive Factory learned tank building on the T-24 and a decade later produced the T-34 on the same site.
