Development history

The T-28 embodied the 1930s belief that a tank should fight in several directions at once, with a main 76 mm turret flanked by two machine-gun turrets. Finnish anti-tank guns shredded early examples in the Winter War, prompting extra bolted-on armour up to 80 mm. Almost all were lost in the first months of the German invasion.
