Development history
The T-37A grew out of Vickers-Carden-Loyd amphibious trials and gave Soviet reconnaissance units a machine that could cross rivers without bridging - a propeller and rudder at the rear, buoyancy from pontoons over the tracks. It was too thin-skinned to fight, but hundreds served in Poland in 1939, the Winter War and the first year of the German invasion, where losses were heavy. The line continued through the T-38 and T-40 to the post-war PT-76.
