Development history
The T28 - briefly redesignated the 105 mm Gun Motor Carriage T95 - was designed to lead assaults on fortified belts, carrying armour thicker than any other American vehicle and spreading its 86 tonnes over double tracks that could be removed for transport. Two were completed in 1945, too late for use; trials at Aberdeen and Yuma continued into 1947 before the programme was closed. One was lost for decades and rediscovered in a field at Fort Belvoir in 1974. Included here as an experimental design, never a service tank.
