Development history
Bought as a tracked supply carrier after Japanese officers watched Carden-Loyd demonstrations, the Type 94 towed a small trailer and carried a single machine gun. In practice units used it for reconnaissance and infantry escort, roles its 12 mm armour and tiny gun suited poorly. Experience with it led directly to the better-armed Type 97 Te-Ke.
