Development history
With nothing available in the autumn of 1941, Gorky mounted the high-velocity 57 mm ZIS-2 on the tiny Komsomolets tracked tractor. The result was fast to build and hit hard, but was desperately unstable when firing, had no protection beyond a gun shield and carried almost no ammunition. Around a hundred were rushed to anti-tank batteries at Moscow, and virtually all were lost by mid-1942.
