Development history
Fielded from 1955 to give armoured columns their own air cover, the ZSU-57-2 mounted two 57 mm automatic guns in an open-topped turret. It was optically aimed with no radar, which made it far more effective against ground targets than against jets, and it was replaced in Soviet service by the radar-directed ZSU-23-4. Export vehicles fought in Vietnam and across the Middle East well into the 1980s.
