Development history
Designed in twenty-five days on the KV-1S chassis, the SU-152 carried the big ML-20 gun-howitzer in a fixed casemate. Its armour-piercing and concrete-piercing rounds were devastating, and even high-explosive hits could disable a Tiger or Panther outright, earning the nickname Zveroboy at Kursk. Slow loading and limited ammunition meant it fought as a support and ambush weapon rather than a duellist. It was succeeded by the ISU-152 once the IS hull became available.
